GAAR Good Neighbor Jackie Bregman

The Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors, are not only here to help you buy and sell a home, they are constantly working to build better neighborhoods and communities in the Albuquerque area.

Each year the GAAR Good Neighbors program recognizes four Realtors in our community that go above and beyond in volunteer service to a local charity. This program is designed to help showcase how Realtors help build the community. We were able to meet a couple of the recipients of this year’s program from the Southwest Women’s Law Center.

When you are a member of the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors® (GAAR), being a good neighbor isn’t just a catch phrase, it’s a given and it also comes with a reward. GAAR is in the second year in honoring its Good Neighbors program, which chooses four Realtors®, and one affiliate member.

“Usually Good Neighbors not only put a lot of money into it, but they spend a lot of hours and a lot of spare time putting into their charities.” said Eva Medcroft, GAAR Manager of Communications and Outreach. “Since Realtors® give back to the community, and they have helped build

APS Angel Tree

Adopting an APS Title 1 Angel is a heart-warming holiday tradition for the Greater Albuquerque Real Estate Community.

Through it, we bring a little joy to the lives of APS Title 1 Angels this holiday season. Angels are APS Title 1 Homeless Students that attend school even through great hardship.

This year, GAAR REALTORS® and Affiliates are adopting angels from Eugene Field Elementary School, Freedom High School and Washington Middle School. Combined the real estate community – including real estate firms, mortgage lenders, title companies and more – adopt over 500 students each holiday season from 18 Albuquerque Public Schools.

The GAAR REALTORS® are adopting about 35 Angels from Freedom High School.

Sometimes the best way to give thanks is to give back.

And one of the many ways GAAR REALTORS® and Affiliates give back is by ringing bells during the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign.

This annual holiday campaign is critical to the Salvation Army's annual fundraising goals. Their volunteer bell ringers help bring in over 65% of Salvation Army contributions – all of which go to providing Social Services for individuals of Bernalillo, Sandoval and Torrance County.

The social services the Salvation Army provides to our community include:

  • Emergency Food
  • Clothing
  • Transportation
  • Utility and Rental Assistance
  • Medical and Pharmaceutical Assistance
  • Meals
  • Youth Leadership Development
  • Education
  • Christmas for Families

Buying a new home isn’t just about what goes into your home, but about who goes into your home, and that could be someone who is caring for your dental health.

Jon Schnoor, 2016 President, Greater Association of Realtors, (GAAR) joined New Mexico Living to explain what dental health has to do with real estate.

“Last year at our annual meeting, we selected five realtors from our association that really go above and beyond in their work with charities, and financially supporting charities and John was one of the winners last year – one of the people selected. So, we just want to honor him and his mom for what they’re doing in the community,” says Schnoor.
